Our Story
We founded Retrax in 1996 with a singular vision: build the most durable retractable truck bed cover on the market. At a time when soft roll-up covers dominated the industry, we saw an opportunity to give truck owners something better — a hard, retractable cover that combined the security of a truck cap with the full bed access of a tonneau cover. That idea became the foundation of everything we build today.
From our original 10,000-square-foot facility, we grew rapidly as word spread among truck owners about the reliability of our sealed ball-bearing roller system. By 2003, demand pushed us into a 20,000-square-foot production space, and by 2005 we added another 24,000 square feet for assembly, shipping, and storage. In 2012, we completed our Plant 3 expansion with dedicated powder-coating and receiving operations — all under one American roof.
In 2013, Retrax joined the Truck Hero family of brands, connecting us with a broader network of truck accessory innovators while preserving the engineering independence and quality standards our customers expect. Today, with over one million retractable covers sold worldwide, we continue to design, test, and manufacture every Retrax cover right here in the United States.
What We Build
We specialize exclusively in retractable truck bed covers — it’s all we do, and we’ve spent nearly three decades perfecting it. Our product lineup spans multiple series designed for different truck owners: the aluminum RetraxPRO XR and PRO MX for maximum strength, the polycarbonate RetraxONE XR and ONE MX for lightweight versatility, the smart-enabled Retrax EQ with Bluetooth and app control, and the PowertraxPRO for fully electric operation.
Every Retrax cover shares our patented sealed ball-bearing roller system, precision-fit design for dozens of truck models, and a no-drill clamp-on installation. We use industrial-strength aluminum slats in our PRO and EQ series and impact-resistant polycarbonate in our ONE series — both materials tested in conditions ranging from -40°F to 180°F. Our integrated Trax Rail System transforms XR models into cargo management platforms capable of supporting bike racks, crossbars, and overland gear.
We also manufacture a complete line of replacement parts and accessories — drain tubes, seals, lock cylinders, key replacements, and T-slot accessories — because we believe a lifetime warranty should be backed by lifetime serviceability.
